About
It's been more than two years that I had in mind starting up a blog. Even did some attempts setting up a local copy, preparing some initial content for it. None of those attempts satisfied me, at least before my interest drops. So, this time I skipped all that part, uploaded Wordpress on a server, and here it comes.
I never made it into establishing a decision on what the orientation of this blog should be. While the main reason is publishing Linux-related HOW-TO guides, I cannot predict, or promise, what else subject might trigger me into posting.
Since I migrated to Linux, there were numerous little things that were not working out-of-the box, at least the way I wanted to. Never made a single note of what I was doing, fooled by the illusion that I can remember anything. Now I know I may had save some time, IF I had made a HOW-TO guide for future reference...
Being tired of rediscovering what I had done in the past, from now on, I will be using this blog as my notes. Who knows? Maybe they turn useful to someone else too. That said, I cannot guarantee that guides posted here will be suitable for all audiences, nor that I will be able keeping guides aligned with newer versions. Most of the times, I loose access into platforms that I set up, being impossible to evaluate if guide is still valid when it comes to newer software versions.
When it comes to language used for posting, since I intend to help other people, I find it suitable to post things in English, and if I ever find time, provide a Greek version too. Still, it might happen that specific posts only appear in one language, English or Greek. Please, excuse me for the inconvenience.
Hoping that my little tricks may help someone,
Sakis

Hi !
I am a Ubuntu (9.10) Newbie .
I will try to use this software because I cannot get 3G working.
First a question before I start, has this software been tested with my modem which is a “E1750″ ?

Hi Lennart,
I “think” there is no report of success of failure for your modem. However, Sakis3G should be able to handle it.
Feel free to contact me directly through email if it does not work.

Hello
After struggling for four days and read millions of pages, i couldn’t establish connection of my friend’s hyundai mb-810 on Ubuntu 9.10. And then somebody redirected me to you, i ran the script and “voila” – my friend has a working connection.
Thanks a lot for your work. You just helped that the Linux community has one more member.
Hope you will continue to do an excellent work.
Bye

Hi Saso,
thank you for coming back sharing your experience. Since you are setting it up for someone else, probably not experienced with Linux, I would suggest that you also create an entry for Sakis3G on System>Preferences>Sessions, with following command line: “/usr/bin/sakis3g helper –balloons”. This will make it appear as a tray icon each time your friend logins. Check video on http://www.sakis3g.org for what “helper” and –balloons do.
Also, if your friend finds it annoying providing root password for getting connected, check wiki.sakis3g.org (go to “Search” and type “sudo”) for instructions on how to modify your sudo configuration, then create file /etc/sakis3g.conf like this:
sudo bash
echo “sudo” >> /etc/sakis3g.conf
Connection will then be possible without supplying root password.
